This site was started as a way to bring the exciting findings of the “new brain science” to parents and teacher-caregivers of young children in a way that applies this research to how we actually interact with children and keep them safe and healthy. With the changing nature of brain science, this site will be in constant development, as we learn more and more about the brain.
My goal for this site is to explain brain science concepts for people who are very busy and are NOT neuroscientists, particularly parents and those who work with children in educational, care giving situations. My intent is also to do this without “watering down” the information, but by making it understandable.
Though the focus of this site is on the early years, some research on adolescence has been included. And, much of the material about the brain in this site applies to adults, too!
New section on training and two videos
I’ve started a new section of Training Modules based on workshops I have conducted in the community. There are a couple of formal lectures that I’ve presented that are available in video format. One is on the principles of brain development and the other is a lecture on the neuroscience of bias that includes suggestions for how to reduce our own implicit biases.
